The Philadelphia Eagles are in a tough spot entering Week 7. In recent years, the Eagles have consistently remained a top team, with coach Nick Sirianni playing a big role in that success. However, Sirianni is now on a major hot seat, and the team's injuries are stacking up. Since October began, Philadelphia has lost four running backs, including Saquon Barkley, who remains questionable—along with key tight ends, multiple defensive starters, and newly retired Lane Johnson. As if things couldn’t get worse, Jalen Hurts has been diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs that require blood thinners, sitting him out for the rest of the season. That leaves a depleted starting lineup featuring Tanner McKee, Dameon Pierce, DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, and Dallas Goedert—with Smith and Goedert already playing banged up. Behind McKee, options are thin: recently signed practice squad player Joe Milton and fifth-round rookie Cole Payton. Can Payton take over, or will the Eagles be forced to trade to stay contending in a wide-open NFC East?
Gardner Minshew - TRADEThe Arizona Cardinals are equally just as pathetic as the Eagles this season. It's not like anybody expected the Cardinals to be a top team, but their play is a subtle competition of being the NFL's worst bird team. Gardner Minshew signed with teh Cardinals on March 12, 2026 on a one-year deal. The don't need him nor plan on using him. Jacoby Brissett is the starter for now, with 3rd string Carson Beck awaiting his NFL debut. Gardner Minshew remains the backup for Arizona, but I truly don't think the Cardinals are waiting for him to play for them. I think he is a perfect trade scenario considering he is waiting for a moment once again. He already played for Siriannia back in 2021-22. Therefore, he knows a little bit about the Eagles offense. The Cardinals have aready said, "Carson Beck remains QB3", but I believe that is just for public relations. He will get the starting job come November when the Cardinals start to drift away from the rest of the division. Gardner Minshew won't be a savior for Philadelphia, but at least the city has proved they can win with backups.
Cooper Rush - FREE AGENTCooper Rush started this NFL season on a one-year deal with Atlanta due to injuries to former first round pick, Michael Penix Jr and Tua Tagovailoa. Cooper Rush was released just yesterday as of writing this article. I think they did that because he will be getting a phone call from a few teams, most notably, Philadelphia. Cooper Rush has excellent potential in the NFL and hasn't really had a chance to succeed. In two games, he threw one touchdown and four interceptions. Not exactly great. However, he would be cheap enough for the potential that the Eagles have to look towards the future regarding Jalen Hurts. He would be a bridge, but likely a bandage on a horrible Eagles start to the year. Rush actually played for the Giants and Cowboys previously, so that is something in favor of Philadelphia's overall playstyle mentality.
Sean Clifford - PRACTICE SQUADSean Clifford is an intriguing option for the Eagles. He has spent time with Eagles offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion while on the Green Bay Packers. Clifford was recently waived back in August for final roster cuts, but re-signed on the practice squad the next day. He has only appeared in two NFL regular season games on two snaps. I wouldn't say this is a major play for the Eagles to get, considering they just signed Joe Milton off of practice squads.
Jimmy Garoppolo - FREE AGENTJimmy Garoppolo still isn't on an NFL team in 2026, despite being a starter for three different teams after backup up Tom Brady for three seasons. Jimmy Garoppolo recently considered retiring after his stint in Los Angeles behind Matthew Stafford. However, he has since removed said statement and has been open to playing in the current NFL season. I imagine the Eagles are looking to call him. Not only has he been to the Super Bowl with the 49ers, his NFL record is 43-21 while passing for over 15,000 yards. He has thrown nearly 100 touchowns and 50 interceptions. Pairing him up with Dallas Goedert and DeVonta Smith, while some quick passes to Saquon Barkley can be the saving grace of the Eagles season.
Nothing is quite over until it is. The Eagles are sitting at a 2-4 record with an upcoming schedule of home against Dallas, at Washington, at home against the Giants, home against Pittsburgh, then in Dallas for Thanksgiving. With four division games coming in five weeks after losing their Super Bowl champion quarterback, the Eagles have a chance to get four wins inside their division. With Dallas playing just as bad, the Giants losing Jaxson Dart for the season, and Jayden Daniels just coming back from an injury, the Eagles are not out yet. There is still time to heal before Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.
